As part of the Global Mechanism (GM)’s institutional mandate, FIELD is supported by all UNCCD country Parties, through their assessed contributions to the overall UNCCD budget.
Co-financing for the progressive enhancement and updating of FIELD has been provided to the GM in the form of voluntary financial or in-kind contributions from:
- the governments of Denmark, Italy, the Netherlands, and Switzerland.
Advisers
Support and advice in terms of positioning and operational development is regularly provided to the GM by the Facilitation Committee members, namely the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the World Bank Group (WB), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the African Development Bank (AfDB), the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), the Secretariat of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), and the UNCCD Secretariat.
Feedback from FIELD stakeholders and users is collected by the GM on a regular basis through a variety of channels. In various stages of the development and implementation of the FIELD system, the GM proactively solicited detailed inputs and recommendations from several partner countries and organizations:
- Survey on the establishment of the GM database (Nov 1999): side event organized at the third session of the UNCCD Conference of the Parties (COP.3).
- Workshop on the GM Information System (July 2000): Belgium (BADC), Belgian Survival Fund (BSF), China (P.R.), European Commission (EC), UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Italy (Min. Foreign Affairs), Mali (A.M.I.), OECD’s Development Assistance Committee (DAC), UNCCD-LAC Regional Coordination Unit.
- Resources available for UNCCD implementation - Financial analyses, Showcases and Knowledge Management (Dec 2000): side event organized at the fourth session of the UNCCD Conference of the Parties (COP.4).
- Pilot decentralised data collection and dissemination activities at country level (Nov 2000-Oct 2001): Belgium (DGDC), P. R. China (SFA/CCICCD), Mali (STP/CIGQE), Regional Desertification Information Network for Latin America and the Caribbean (DESELAC), USA (USAID, private sector companies and foundations).
- Comparative analysis of UNCCD-related ODA by DAC member countries (June-Dec 2003): Australia (AusAID), Austria (BMAA), Canada (CIDA), Germany (BMZ), Finland (FORMIN), France (MINEFI), Japan (MOFA), Norway (NORAD), United Kingdom (DFID).
- Independent evaluation of the Global Mechanism (Jan-June 2003): World Bank (Development Grant Facility).
- Independent review of the FIELD CD-ROM (Feb 2005): P.R. China (SFA/National Bureau to Combat Desertification), Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI).
- How to increase investments in drylands using FIELD – Stakeholder’s survey (Feb-June 2005): Canada, China, Finland, Germany, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Luxembourg, Sweden, Asian Development Bank (ADB), European Commission (EC-DEV), Global Environment Facility (GEF), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), UNCCD Secretariat, World Bank (WB).
- UNCCD Ad Hoc Working Group (AHWG) to improve the procedures for communication of information as well as the quality and the format of reports on the implementation of the Convention (May-Oct 2006).
Contributors
FIELD is an interactive and participatory information system, and the GM regularly receives contributions and specific inputs from registered users and partner organizations in terms of information, knowledge, updates, feedback and comments, which are used to update the database.
