Opponents of a plan to pump mineral water for bottling from reserves beneath the Sierra Nevada mountain range claim that it will intensify desertification in the province of Grenada, leading to the loss of the areas only natural wetland area, the Padul Lagoon. Anger has been further fuelled by additional plans to build a bottling plant on the Zahor Mountain which overlooks the Lecrin Valley town. It is argued that, should the plans go ahead it will destroy 60,000 square metres of protected land. |
