The Global Mechanism (GM) was established by the Parties to the Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) to act as a hub for a dynamic network of partners committed to focusing their energies, resources and knowledge on combating desertification. As defined in Article 21, paragraph 5(a) of the UNCCD, and in 24/COP.1 (Annex), and 25/COP.1, one of the tasks of the GM is to collect and disseminate information. The GM Financial Information Engine on Land Degradation (hereinafter called "FIELD” or “FIELD portal”) is part of this process. In order to protect the interests of the GM when FIELD is used, this disclaimer shall be applied and respected by all Users.

1. Terms and Conditions of Use
The use of FIELD is subject to the terms and conditions set forth below.

The contents and use of FIELD are the sole responsibility of the GM that will maintain and administer this site as a courtesy to those who may choose to access it. The information contained herein is for informative purposes only. The GM is pleased to allow Users to visit FIELD and download and copy information, documents and materials from the FIELD portal for the User’s personal, non-commercial use, without any right to resell, redistribute or create derivative works therefrom, subject to the terms and conditions outlined below, and also subject to more specific restrictions that may apply to specific material within the FIELD portal.
 
The GM provides the information contained in FIELD solely as a resource for the Users without any form of assurance. While the GM tries to provide high quality content on its portal, it does not guarantee the accuracy, reliability or timeliness of this information and therefore will not be liable in any capacity for damages or losses to the User that may result from the use of this information. The GM shall not be held responsible for any errors, omissions or inadvertent alterations that may occur in the disclosure of content on the FIELD portal.
 
The GM reserves its exclusive right in its sole discretion to alter, limit or discontinue the site or any materials in any respect. The GM shall have no obligation to take the needs of any User into consideration in connection therewith.

The GM reserves the right to deny, in its sole discretion, any User accesses to FIELD or any portion thereof without notice.

The findings, interpretations and conclusions expressed in the materials in the FIELD portal are those of the various authors of the work and are not necessarily those of Global Mechanism.

The use of particular designations of economies, countries or territories does not imply any judgement by the GM as to the stage reached in the development process, the legal status of such countries or territories, of their authorities and institutions or of the delimitation of their boundaries.

Users agree to indemnify the GM from and against any and all actions, claims, losses, damages, liabilities and expenses (including attorneys' fees) arising from the use of FIELD. This includes, without limitation, any claims alleging facts that if true would constitute a breach by the User of these terms and conditions. If the User is dissatisfied with any material on the FIELD portal or with any of terms and conditions of use of this site, the User’s sole and exclusive remedy is to discontinue using FIELD.

2. Interactive Parts of FIELD
The FIELD portal may contain or provide access to bulletin boards, chat rooms, access to mailing lists or other messaging or communication facilities. The User agrees, when taking advantage of such facilities, not to do any of the following: (a) defame, abuse, harass, stalk, threaten or otherwise violate the legal, moral, or human rights of others (such as rights of privacy and publicity); (b) publish, post, distribute or disseminate any defamatory, infringing, obscene, indecent or unlawful material or information; (c) upload or attach files that contain software or other material protected by intellectual property laws (or by rights of privacy) unless the User owns or controls the rights thereto or has received all necessary consents; (d) upload or attach files that contain viruses, corrupted files, or any other similar software or programmes that may damage the operation of another's computer; (e) delete any author attributions, legal notices or proprietary designations or labels in any file that is uploaded; (f) falsify the origin or source of software or other material contained in a file that is uploaded; (g) advertise or offer to sell any goods or services, or conduct or forward surveys, contests, or chain letters; or (h) download any file posted by another User that the User knows, or reasonably should know, cannot be legally distributed in such manner. The GM reserves the absolute right to delete any material posted to FIELD without notice to the User.

The GM accepts no responsibility or liability in respect of the conduct of any User in connection with such facilities, or for any material submitted by Users and carried on the FIELD portal including, for example, responsibility or liability for the accuracy or reliability of any information, data, opinions, advice or statements made in such material.

3. Disclaimer of Liability
The FIELD portal is designed to facilitate access to public domain information on UNCCD financing and is provided for information purposes only and does not imply any commitment whatsoever by the GM or by any of the institutions mentioned in the FIELD.

Furthermore, the GM and any institutions mentioned in the FIELD shall not be liable for any financial or other consequences whatsoever arising from the use of information or data contained in FIELD, including the inappropriate, improper or fraudulent use of such information or data.

The essence of FIELD is that data can be provided directly by data owners (that are provided with passwords in order to enter data) and is released to the public after being screened by a FIELD editor or thematic moderator.

Although every effort is made to ensure the accuracy, reliability, timeliness, consistency and proper classification of data, some data or information may be incomplete, inaccurate, unclear or out of date, and may be subject to frequent revisions and updates. The GM shall not responsible for any errors, omissions or inadvertent alterations that may occur in the disclosure of the data on FIELD portal.

All questions/clarifications to specific information must be addressed to the respective FIELD editors.

4. Links to Third-Party Web Sites
FIELD provides a number of links to third-party web sites for the convenience of its Users. The inclusion of these links does not in any way imply endorsement by the GM. Since these links are not under the control of the GM, it shall not be responsible for the contents of these linked sites or the opinions and statements expressed therein. This also applies to any additional links that may appear within these sites.

5. Linking to FIELD
Generally, Internet web sites may link to FIELD without seeking the permission of the GM. However, such links must clearly identify FIELD as the source of the information displayed and preserve the integrity of the FIELD web pages without alteration.
